Eastern Giant Mts. are full of beautiful places. Discover them during your hiking trips. You can start your high-altitude hikes from the top stations of cable cars belonging to SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA - PEC. From Černá hora at Janské Lázně, Hnědý vrch in Pec pod Sněžkou, or from Portášky in Velká Úpa.
Observation towers
Observation towers Observation tower Černá hora Observation tower Panorama - is original pillar of cable car in distance 100 m from top station of current cable car, in direction to ski lift Anděl. Observation platform is in the height 21 m, where you can enjoy beautiful round view to the countryside and to Giant Mountains. A panoramic camera is installed on the tower structure and is featured every morning in the Czech TV programme Panorama, providing information about the weather, snow and trail conditions, and other current updates. Observation tower Hnědý vrch, near the upper station of the Hnědý vrch chairlift The highest observation tower in Giant Mts. is observation tower Hnědý vrch in Pec pod Sněžkou. You can find it close to the top station of chairlift Hnědý vrch. The foot of the tower is located at an altitude of 1 207 m. above sea level. The main viewing platform is 27 meters higher. The whole height of the tower is 30,85 metres. The observation tower you can visit for free. Views of the highest Czech mountains: Luční hora, Studniční hora, Sněžka, Světlá and Černá hora. In good weather conditions you can see Orlické hory and Jeseníky too. Operation time: Tower is open daily

Walk in Střední hřeben /Central ridge/ Route goes from square from colonnade to Catholic church. Here you can make a decision if you go directly to ridge, or you can go slowly through Rudulfovo valley round children Medical institution called Vesna. Rudolfovo valley is called after prince Rudolf Habsbursky, who visited Janske Lazne in July 1876, in the time of 10 years anniversary "Battle of Trutnov" When you climb to Central ridge you find a place with beautiful view to spa town Janske Lazne and impressive mountain called Cerna hora /Black Mountain/. You can visit also well-known trip place called Hoffmanova bouda /challet/ with original pub. This pub was established already in the year 1889. To the centre of Janske Lazne you return round low station of cable car. This cable car joined /in times old/ town Janske Lazne with Cerny Dul and Vrchlabi.

Modré kameny (Blue Rocks)
Modré kameny (Blue stones) Modré kameny - a few quartz rocks in southern shoulder of Svetla mountain, accessible from touring sign routes. From the biggest rock is beautiful view to countryside durign nice weather. There are 2 routes to visit blue stones. Route 1 is tracked by cable car from Janské Lázně to the top of “Černá hora” mountain and further to “Velké Pardubické Boudy” Cottages. You can walk it or ride the bike or scooter. It is 9 km long and it is slightly down the hill. We recommend you to visit „Hospůdka na Formánkách“ restaurant where children’s playground with giant trampoline, mini - golf course or Russian skittles is. See the map of Route 1 HERE Route 2 is tracked from Janské Lázně through “Modrokamenna bouda“ Cottage to Blue stones. It is nearly 5 km long and it is up and down hill walk. Černá hora Peat Bog
Černá hora Peat Bog The Černá hora Peat Bog is the largest forest peat bog in the Krkonoše Mountains. It was formed in the flat saddle between Černá hora and Světlá hora and covers an area of approximately 60 hectares. Unlike open peat bogs, forest peat bogs are characterized by a higher occurrence of cottongrass and sedges. The peat layer reaches a depth of up to 2.5 metres, with a total peat volume of approximately 420,000 m³. Annual precipitation averages around 1,400 mm. Snow cover usually lasts from November to May and can reach depths of up to three metres. The average annual temperature is approximately +2°C (compared to +6.8°C in Trutnov). Among the rare plant species found here are mountain everlasting, bog bilberry, crowberry, hare’s-tail cottongrass, common cottongrass, bog asphodel and thread rush. Local wildlife includes pond skaters, viviparous lizards, common frogs and, on rare occasions, the western capercaillie. The area is also known as an important red deer rutting ground. The Černá hora Peat Bog and its immediate surroundings are part of the first and second protection zones of the Krkonoše National Park, where stricter nature conservation rules apply. The KRNAP administration has created a 4.5-kilometre educational trail with several information panels. The trail leads from Černá bouda via Václavák, Hubert's Viewpoint and Velké Pardubické boudy. It can be joined from several directions, including the red hiking trail from Pec pod Sněžkou, from the summit of Černá hora near the upper station of the ČERNOHORSKÝ EXPRESS gondola, or via the green-marked trail from Janské Lázně (Cesta T). The Černá hora Peat Bog Educational Trail is closed every year from 15 March to 31 May in order to protect sensitive wildlife species from disturbance. Luisa's Path through Těsný důl (Klaus Valley) Current notice: Luisa's Path is currently closed for safety reasons. Several rockfalls have occurred on the slope above the trail, and the KRNAP Administration is working on securing unstable rock formations. The description below reflects the route before its closure. The best way to reach the beginning of Luisa's Path is via the promenade leading from the Lesní dům hotel to the bridge over the Černohorský Stream. The trail turns left immediately after the bridge and is named after Countess Aloisie Czernin-Morzinová, who contributed significantly to the development of the Vrchlabí and Maršov estates during the second half of the 19th century. Construction of the two-metre-wide path leading towards Pardubické boudy, then known as Kühnelovy boudy, took five years to complete. After just a quarter of a kilometre, the trail is carved into a rocky canyon near the waterfalls of the Černohorský Stream. In other sections, the slope is so steep that builders had to carve foundation ledges directly into the bedrock. In 2003, the KRNAP Administration carried out an extensive reconstruction of the first bridge and the lower section of the path in the most attractive part of Těsný důl, covering a distance of approximately 600 metres. At the end of the canyon, the restored section currently ends, as the second bridge has not been rebuilt.

Then turn left to the children’s sanatorium Vesna, continue through Rudolfův důl. Horní promenáda will take you from Vesna to the town centre of Janské Lázně.
