There’s Snow on Černá hora. Children Can Build Snowmen in the Middle of Summer

Snow during the summer on Černá hora is neither a remnant of winter nor the result of an unexpected cold spell. SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA – PEC has created a real snow playground in the Kabinka Children's Park, where children can enjoy snowball fights and sledging in the middle of the summer holidays. Part of the fresh snow will also be delivered to Alice and Michal, the bears living at the Treetop Walk in Janské Lázně. 

Winter gloves and sledges in the middle of summer? On Černá hora, they are surprisingly useful these days. Right next to the upper station of the Černohorský Express gondola lift, a large pile of snow has appeared in the Kabinka Children's Park, giving children the chance to throw snowballs, build snowmen and enjoy sledging despite the summer weather.

The snow was produced using TechnoAlpin's SnowFactory technology, which makes it possible to create snow regardless of the outside temperature. Thanks to this technology, visitors can experience a touch of winter on Černá hora while hiking the mountain ridges in T-shirts and shorts.

"We certainly have plenty of experience with snow on Černá hora, but seeing children sledging and having snowball fights in the middle of the summer holidays is something completely different. We created the snow mainly for children visiting Kabinka Children's Park. But since we've brought a little piece of winter to the mountains, we also wanted to share it with our bear neighbours. I'm really curious to see how they'll react to snow in the middle of summer," says Jakub Janda of SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA – PEC.

Snow for Children – and for Bears

Part of the snow will also be delivered to Alice and Michal, the bears living next to the Treetop Walk in Janské Lázně. The fresh snow will provide them with an opportunity to cool down, dig through it and play. Visitors will be able to watch everything from the wooden walkway overlooking the bear enclosure, which forms part of the Treetop Walk experience.

Introducing snow into the bears' enclosure was carefully discussed in advance with the animal care specialists as well as the administration of the Krkonoše National Park.
