Hiking with chairlifts

Eastern Giant Mts. are full of beautiful places. Discover them during your hiking trips. You can start your high-altitude hikes from the top stations of cable cars belonging to SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA - PEC. From  Černá hora at Janské Lázně, Hnědý vrch in Pec pod Sněžkou, or from Portášky in Velká Úpa.

Observation towers

Observation towers  Observation tower Černá hora  Observation tower Panorama - is original pillar of cable car in distance 100 m from top station of current cable car, in direction to ski lift Anděl. Observation platform is in the height 21 m, where you can enjoy beautiful round view to the countryside and to Giant Mountains. Panorama camera is placed in construction of observation tower. Panorama camera informs about weather conditions, state of downhill slopes, cross country routes and the other actualities each morning from 8.00 a.m. in programme ČT2 /Czech television/. Operation time - Winter 23/24 on weekends, in good weather, open from 12:00 - 15:00     (Group orders out of operation time: 604 706 701, 777 336 492) SkiResort ČERNÁ HORA - PEC is not operator of tower.    Observation tower Hnědý vrch, near the upper station of the Hnědý vrch chairlift The highest observation tower in Giant Mts. is observation tower Hnědý vrch in Pec pod Sněžkou. You can find it close to the top station of chairlift Hnědý vrch. The foot of the tower is located at an altitude of 1 207 m. above sea level. The main viewing platform is 27 meters higher. The whole height of the tower is 30,85 metres. The observation tower you can visit for free.  Views of the highest Czech mountains: Luční hora, Studniční hora, Sněžka, Světlá and Černá hora. In good weather conditions you can see Orlické hory and Jeseníky too.  Operation time:  Chairlift is closed until futher notice.

Walk in Střední hřeben (Central ridge)

Walk in Střední hřeben /Central ridge/ Route goes from square from colonnade to Catholic church. Here you can make a decision if you go directly to ridge, or you can go slowly through Rudulfovo valley round children Medical institution called Vesna. Rudolfovo valley is called after prince Rudolf Habsbursky, who visited Janske Lazne in July 1876, in the time of 10 years anniversary "Battle of Trutnov" When you climb to Central ridge you find a place with beautiful view to spa town Janske Lazne and impressive mountain called Cerna hora /Black Mountain/. You can visit also well-known trip place called Hoffmanova bouda /challet/ with original pub. This pub was established already in the year 1889. To the centre of Janske Lazne you return round low station of cable car. This cable car joined /in times old/ town Janske Lazne with Cerny Dul and Vrchlabi.

Modré kameny (Blue stones)

Modré kameny (Blue stones) Modré kameny - a few quartz rocks in southern shoulder of Svetla mountain, accessible from touring sign routes. From the biggest rock is beautiful view to countryside durign nice weather. There are 2 routes to visit blue stones. Route 1 is tracked by cable car from Janské Lázně to the top of “Černá hora” mountain and further to “Velké Pardubické Boudy” Cottages. You can walk it or ride the bike or scooter. It is 9 km long and it is slightly down the hill. We recommend you to visit „Hospůdka na Formánkách“ restaurant where children’s playground with giant trampoline, mini - golf course or Russian skittles is. See the map of Route 1 HERE   Route 2 is tracked from Janské Lázně through “Modrokamenna bouda“ Cottage to Blue stones. It is nearly 5 km long and it is up and down hill walk. Černohorské rašeliniště

Černohorské rašeliniště Černohorské rašeliniště - the biggest forest peatland called "Cernohorske raseliniste" arised in saddle between Cerna and Svetla hora, approximately in 60 hectares, in Giant Mountains. These forest peatlands have more sedges than other types of peatlands. The biggest depth in Cernohorske raseliniste is two and half metres and total volume of peat is approximately 420.000 m3. Yearly precipitation is approximately 1.400 mm, snow cover is from November to May, the height of snow is three metres in some localities. Mean yearly temperature is approximately +2°C /in Trutnov is mean yearly temperature app. +6,8°C/. A lot of interesting aminals live here. The deers live in this locality too. Cernohorske raseliniste and its scene come under I. and II. Zone, stricter limit of persons activity is valid here. Administration of Giant Mountain National Park established cca 4,5 km long nature trail with many tables. This nature trail goes from Cerna bouda to Vaclavak, Hubertova vyhlidka, Velke Pardubické boudy. You can come to nature trail from many places, you can go in red touring tour from Pec pod Snezkou, also from the top of Cerna mountain - from top station of cable car or you can go in green touring tour from Janske Lazne /Way T/.

Luisis way through Těsný důl (Klausův důl)

Luisis way through Těsný důl (Klausův důl) If you go through promennade from hotel Lesni dům you get to Luisa's way. The way turns behind the bridge to the left, the way is called after countess Aloisa Czernin-Morzin. She had merit in development of local domain in second half of 19. century. Construction of 2 metres lengthy pavement took whole 5 years. The pavement /after cca 250 meters/ goes in rock canyon close to waterfalls of Cernohorsky stream. The administration of Giant Mountain National Park made difficult reconstruction /in the year 2003/ on the first bridge and on lower part of pavement in the most interesting parts of Tesny dul in the length 600 meters. The repaired pavement ends at canyon end, the second bridge is not restored yet.

From Černá hora you can walk down the asphalt road Černohorská to Hoffmanovy boudy. Then continue across the main road towards Zlatá vyhlídka. Then turn left to the children’s sanatorium Vesna, continue through Rudolfův důl. Horní promenáda will take you from Vesna to the town centre of Janské Lázně.
